Soviet Star had a two year old winner in Turkey yesterday when Satana, ex Great Florabunda who was bred by Ballylinch Stud and sold carrying the filly, won a 6.5f race in Istanbul. Soviet Star has had plenty of success in Turkey in recent years with the likes of Pressing (who now stands as a stallion in that country) and the Ballylinch bred filly Eva’s Request.

Commissar has become the latest addition to the ranks of Godolphin after joining Mahmood Al Zarooni from Paul Cole. The two-year-old colt by Soviet Star ex Sari, left behind an underwhelming April debut when winning over 5f at Newmarket this month for previous connections. He finished five lengths clear of the Richard Hannon-trained Tell Dad – who could give the form a boost at Newmarket today – in a maiden which has produced smart horses in the past.
